Sam Masters: Wolverhampton Wolves can overturn big deficit

Sam Masters insists hope is not lost for Wolverhampton despite heading into tonight’s Knockout Cup quarter-final second leg with Belle Vue 24 points down (7.30pm).

Last month’s 57-33 defeat at the National Speedway Stadium was the biggest suffered by the Parrys International Wolves for more than a year.

That followed a narrow 92-88 aggregate defeat to the Aces in last season’s final with a 52-38 setback in the second leg wiping out the 50-40 success at Monmore Green.

But while the odds look stacked against his side, Masters believes the chunky deficit can be overturned.

“They got a big score at their place but there is no reason we can’t do the same to them,” he added. “It will be a big ask and Belle Vue have riders that can go well around Wolverhampton but we will be ready to hit them hard.

“Hopefully we can come out on top, stranger things have happened in speedway.”

Wolves line up with an altered riding order on home shale for the first time since new Premiership averages set in.

Cameron Heeps rides at reserve with Ashley Morris pushed up to number two. Kyle Howarth dons three, the position previously occupied by Heeps.

For Belle Vue, Manchester-based Jason Garrity starts his 28-day spell covering the injured Steve Worrall.
