Peter Adams: Speedway was the winner, says devastated Wolves boss

Wolves team boss Peter Adams hailed speedway as the winner despite the agonising one-point aggregate loss to Swindon in the Premiership Grand Final.

The injured Freddie Lindgren and Jacob Thorssell were sorely missed, Lindgren's guest replacement Chris Harris suffering a nightmare evening of mechanical troubles that saw him use three different bikes.

But Adams, despite his obvious disappointment, was able to look at the bigger picture.

“Congratulations to Swindon. Top of the league and put that winning run together,” said Adams.

“They are worthy champions and we can't begrudge them that.

“But really our replacement facilities for absentees (the injured Freddie Lindgren and Jacob Thorssell) was nowhere near what those two would have scored.

“That was obviously the separating factor. But the winner tonight was speedway.

“I've got to say it was a great final, very tense all the way through.

“We can all point to little things, like a couple of our riders stopping because they saw a red light (thought to be from a camera).

“Things like this separated us from the victory in the end.

“He (Harris) had a bit of bike issues, he was on three different bikes and didn't seem to carry the kind of speed he normally does around here.

“But we can't blame him. Anyone coming in for Freddie Lindgren has pretty big boots to fill.

“A disappointing score from him, but I'm not laying the blame on Chris at all.”
