Wolverhampton lose ground with defeat

Wolverhampton have fallen 57 points behind leaders Berkswell in the Birmingham & District League Premier Division after losing to Walsall by seven wickets.

Staffordshire wicketkeeper James Middleton struck an unbeaten 91 as Walsall chased down Wolverhampton's total of 195 with ease.

Walsall captain David Powles helped Middleton get his side over the line at Danescourt with 41 not out after opening batsman Mike Hingley had made 46.

Earlier, Paul Byrne had take 4-50 with Wasim Jaffer (77) top scoring for Wolverhampton.

Kidderminster are just three points behind Wolverhampton after all-rounder Michael Hill smashed 116 from only 55 balls in a massive 187-run victory over West Bromwich Dartmouth.

Hill's innings included 13 fours and seven sixes, and Nathan Round (71), Jonathan Wright (66) and Neil Pinner (56) all made half-centuries as Kidderminster ended on 347-6.

The bowlers then completed the job, as Dartmouth were bowled out for 160. Chris Russell was the pick of the bunch with 5-41.

In Division One, Smethwick stayed second thanks to centuries from Mo Sheikh (100) and Amitoze Singh (114).

They set Old Hill 281 to win but even though the hosts couldn't chase it down, they lost just six wickets to deny Smethwick the win.

Himley nearly chased down Barnards Green's total of 279-8, but finished on 270-7 in reply.

Ben Smith (74), Tom Kohler-Cadmore (63) and Dan Durman (44no) were the pick of Himley's batsmen, while Chris Boroughs and Jamie Turner each took three wickets.

In Division Two, Penkridge stunned joint-leaders Shifnal and Womborne beat Old Elizabethans.

Cannock & Rugeley Hawks picked up 18 points against Coventry & North Warwickshire, Stourbridge lost to Oswestry, and Halesowen were skittled out for 66 by Harborne.

In Division Three, Fordhouses stayed top with victory over Aston Manor, Lichfield lost to Pershore, Brewood lost to Newport, and Worfield beat Streetly by 10 wickets.
