Sporting Khalsa manager Ian Rowe is looking for his side to grasp some early momentum after opening up with two wins on the bounce.

The Midland League Premier side opened their account with a 2-1 FA Cup win over Boldmere St Michaels on Tuesday, before thumping Haughmond 6-0 in the league on the weekend.

And Rowe is delighted with their start, despite injury setbacks.

“I’d take that at the start of the season, we’ve had a good week after winning in the FA Cup too,” he said.

“We still have a few lads out injured, so it’s pleasing because defensively we were quite thread-bare going into the first week. I’m happy. It was a good win and without sounding disrespectful to the opposition, it was quite comfortable. The whole squad is eager and hungry to play, which is good, and long may it continue.”

Khalsa now have a quick turnaround as they travel to face Romulus tonight.

“It’s a tough game against Romulus, hopefully we can take the first two games into this one, we’ve never won there in three years we’ve been in this league,” Rowe added. “It would be nice to break that.”

Meanwhile, goals from James Spray and Aaron Bishop earned AFC Wulfrunians a comeback 2-1 win away at Highgate United. The hosts took the lead after 20 minutes before AFC bounced back with goals in both halfs.

Walsall Wood also made a winning start to the campaign with a 1-0 win at home to Romulus, courtesy of a Trey Braithwaite goal. Tividale suffered defeat in their opener, losing 2-0 at home to Long Eaton United, while Lye also lost, going down 3-0 away at Boldmere St Michaels.
