A hard-fought 3-2 success away to Broseley leaves Chelmarsh as favourites to lift the trophy.

Simon Thomas was in blistering form for Chelmarsh in the opening frame, knocking in a break of 59 during his victory over Craig Griffiths.

Eddie Mullard replied for Broseley with the aid of a 34 break against Gary Smith.

Chris Lewis put Chelmarsh back in front before Mike Rogers secured victory on the night for the visitors.

But Mick Brezwyn ensured Broseley would live to fight another day by beating Paul Manning in the final frame.

With only one frame separating the two teams, the outcome of this final is still very much balance.

The destination of the Second Division League Cup trophy is as good as decided after Maddocks cruised to a 5-0 first-leg win over holders St John’s B.

Jamie O’Hara, who had a run of 27, Ben Gooding and Tommy Hampson never looked troubled in their frames, while Chris Adams and Andy Garbett had to work harder to get the better of Pete Williams and Roy Dickenson, respectively. A. Garbett 49, R. Dickenson 37; T. Hampson 60, M. Crawley 23.
