Platt and Holmes dig in for a win

Golden Cue pair Stephen Platt and Adrian Holmes held their nerve to progress in the Staffs and West Midlands League Pairs Medley Handicap.

The duo took three of the four singles games against Andy Guy and Greg Cotterill to protect their handicap start before a win for Guy in the other singles frame gave the visitors hope going into the deciding doubles.

Guy and Cotterill gave it their best shot, but Platt and Holmes did just enough to limit the damage and scrape home by five points.

Jodi Humphreys and Nathan Edwards made it through after narrowly seeing off the challenge of Neil Drewett and Simon Thomas.

Humphreys won both of her singles frames to help secure a 423-414 victory.

Another close match saw Michael Lane and Graham McGarry make the most of their handicap against Mark Gilbert and Steve Spicer.

Gilbert and Spicer took four of the five frames on the night, but the solitary success from Lane proved vital in the 479-447 success.

Luis Ferraro and Adam Hartshorn booked their place in the next round with a 405-367 victory against Ashley Flukes and Dean Skidmore.

Parminder Bahia and Jason Morris also tasted success, beating Duncan Simpson and Steve Tierney 464-371.

Dean Skidmore took his first singles frame and contributed with a break of 35 on the night but it wasn’t to be their night as despite losing 3 of the 5 frames available the frames they took were big enough wins to secure the win with Adam Hartshorn having breaks of 42 and 31 with Luis Ferraro taking a break of 39 which was enough to seal a 405-367 points win.
