Hotshots aces earn chance to pocket a double

Hotshots SC have lined up a double shot at glory after booking a place in the Staffs and West Midlands League Challenge Cup Handicap final, writes Mark Poole.

With the Division One title all but in the bag, Hotshots are now targeting another piece of silverware thanks to a semi-final success over divisional rivals Sedgley WMC A.

Karl Ashmore and Callum Downing picked up big points victories in the opening two frames to put Hotshots ahead before Rich Haney fought back for Sedgley.

Bal Sembi then hit a break of 45 in frame four but that wasn’t enough to take the win against Richard Lampitt as Sedgley battled on.

But any hopes of a Sedgley comeback were dashed by an impressive display from Jamie Brown in the final frame that saw him hit breaks of 55 and 51 to book his team’s place in the final by an overall score of 389-230.

Division Two side Kingswinford will provide the final opposition after beating top flight outfit Sedgley Ex Service A.

Daniel Ward, Reanne Evans and Chris Wilkes picked up wins for Sedgley but they weren’t enough to turn the handicap score around as victories for Kingswinford pair Peter Lewis and Jason Colbourne proved decisive.

The semi-finals of the Foursomes Championship saw victories for Jack Harris and Steve Barton and Simon Hickman and Daniel Ward.

Harris and Barton overcame the challenge of Graham Beardmore and Rob Wharne, 3-1 win.

After losing the first frame, Harris and Barton hit back to win with breaks of 43 and 32 respectively.

Hickman and Ward were also 3-1 winners, against Paul Harrison and Oliver Spooner.

Harrison started the night in style with a break of 86 but after a close second frame went to their opponents it was one way traffic as Ward’s break of 72 helped them on their way to victory.

The league action saw Matthew Davies knock in an excellent break of 91 to help Shifnal to a 4-1 Division One win over relegation-threatened Wednesfield Cons A.

Chris Jones, Mick Brezwyn, with a 47 break, and Paul Lloyd, who hit two breaks of 52, also won for Shifnal.

Willenhall Liberal A were another team on form as they recorded a 3-2 success at home to third-placed Sedgley Ex Service A.

Simon Gough hit a break of 68 to put the hosts ahead but they were pegged back as Simon Hickman levelled the match aided by a run of 43.

Nathan Wood restored Libs’ lead only for the visitors to level through Reanne Evans.

But Libs weren’t to be denied and Lee Bannister clinched the decider with a fine break of 72.

Golden Cue C became he first side to be relegated after losing 3-2 at home to Pennfields A.

Tony Kerr and Karl Taylor picked up wins on the night for Cue but it wasn’t enough as Pennfields hit back through Simon Thomas, Richard Davies and Neil Leighton.

The battle for the promotion in Division Two continues with second down to fourth place separated by just three points.

Poets Corner A are the top of that little group following a 4-1 win at Pennfields B.

Pommy Kang, Bill Stanton, Chris Schwalbe (34) and Mark Archer won for Poets with Nige Littlewood replying.

Fourth-placed Sedgley WMC C kept up the pressure on the teams above them after they secured a 4-1 success at Bilston BC B.

Stewart Parton did put the home side ahead but the visitors then took charge through Kevin Lockley (34), Ashely Wall (32), Rhys Lampitt (33) and Lee Edwards.

Elsewhere Kingswinford SC look they have nearly ended the promotion chances of the opponents Shifnal Wm B after they beat them 4-1. Jon Fallows had put Shifnal ahead but surprisingly it was the only frame they would win as Glen Shakespeare, Jason Colbourne, Peter Lewis and Alan Moore picked up wins to seal an impressive win.

Woodfield Social B are on the verge of promotion from Division Three after a hard-fought 3-2 home triumph against Essington WMC A.

Lee Haselum produced the standout performance of the night with an impressive break of 68.

Mike Collins and Dominic Ferraro, in the deciding frame, added to Haselum’s win.

At the other end of the table the bottom three are starting to be cut adrift after after Stafford Constitutional slipped to a 3-2 defeat against Poets Corner B to leave them 6 points from safety. Mark Tams and Alan Williams did manage to pick up wins for Stafford but it wasn’t enough as Poets took the win through wins for Darren Westwood who hit a break of 38, Dean Churchill and Colin Davies as they moved themselves clear of any relegation threat.

In Division Four, Golden Cue moved into second place after winning 3-2 at Sedgley WMC D.

Golden Cue managed to get the job done early by taking the opening three frames through Martin Beastall, Liam Jones and Ryan Hamilton.

before Sedgley hit back to reduce the scoreline to just 3-2 overall with wins for Gary Millington and Paul Green. The biggest break of the night came at Charlemont BC where Chad Howell’s 46 helped the hosts beat Old Wulfrunians A 4-1.

Daniel Hartley, Dan Roden and Steve Page were Charlemont’s other winners.

Bushbury Grid A lead the way in Division Five by two points following a 4-1 win at Forty Four B – Paul Wakeman, Ian Boucher, Darren Shirley and Daniel Boucher were the men on target.

The Amery Club picked up a big win as they dealt a major blow to the promotion hopes of Old Wulfrunians B.

Tom Churm did put Old Wulfs ahead but that was as good as it got for them as Phil Robertson, Kevin Evans (36), Dennis Bates and Chris Robertson Snr saw Amery to victory.

Bentley Moor saw off Pennfields C 4-1 at home. Jordan Bannister, Carl Wilkes, Lee Archer and Dean Cattell did the damage.

In Division Six, Essington WMC C should clinch promotion in their next outing after a 4-1 win over second-placed RAFA Club.

The leaders raced off into a 3-0 lead through Terry Hales, Stuart Lovack and Gary Painter before Terry Guy replied. Jon Dobbins then took the final frame for Essington.

Hotshots SC (Tipton) continue to make a late push for promotion and they find themselves in 3rd place this week after they secured a good 4-1 win away at Wednesfield RBL B. Shaun Hobday took the opener for the visitors before Andy Sandland hit back to level the match. The middle frames proved decisive as the visitors took them both to win the match with Andy Reeves and Lee Cooper before Gary Morris took a tight final frame to secure a very good win.
