Walsall Wood timed their return to form perfectly, gaining ground on Midland Premier Division leaders Ilkeston Town with their first victory in six games.

Wood’s 2-1 away win at Quorn came while Ilkeston were stunned 4-0 at home by Coventry Sphinx.

Dan Okojie scored in the 17th minute for Wood before Thomas Tonks added a second in the 35th minute. It reduces Ilkeston’s lead to six points at the top of the table.

AFC Wulfrunians are just three points further back in fifth after a 1-0 win at home over Highgate United.

A seventh-minute goal from Angelo Franco proved enough, extending their unbeaten run in the league to five.

The Wulfs leapfrogged Sporting Khalsa, who were beaten 4-2 by Stourport Swifts.

Two late goals from Dan Westwood gave the scoreline an air of respectability for Khalsa, who have now gone over a month since their last win in the league.

A Jack Downing hat-trick and a Matt Hanson tap-in had given the Swifts a deserved 4-0 lead.

It is their fourth straight win in the league and leaves them in 10th place of the 20-team league.

Lye Town are one place below following their 1-0 defeat at home to Coventry United, who drew level with them on points.

It was a day to forget for Lye, who had Luke Carter and Leigh Pardoe both sent off.

Propping up the table are Wolves Sporting, despite an impressive 1-1 draw away at Worcester City following an equaliser 10 minutes from time.

The game of the day took place in Division One, where Brocton edged a nine-goal thriller with Lichfield City 5-4.

James McGrady bagged a brace, while Lee Osborn, Daniel Lomas and Kieren Nelson added the others for Brocton, who scored four goals in the last half an hour.

The result was even more impressive considering promotion-chasing Lichfield had smashed Brocton 6-1 in the reverse fixture just seven days previously. Heath Hayes were on the end of a thrashing, losing 5-1 to Chelsmley Town.

In West Midlands Premier, runaway leaders Tividale lost 3-1 to Bewdley, allowing Wolverhampton Casuals to move to within 12 points following a 3-1 victory at home to Wem Town. Dudley Town thrashed Pershore Town ‘88 6-2.
