Dan Ward pockets the title spoils for a third time

Dan Ward walked off with a familiar piece of silverware at the Aldridge League presentation night.

Ward and his Willenhall Libs team-mate Lee Bannister took centre stage at the awards evening as they went head-to-head for the league’s Individual title.

And it was reigning champion Ward who came out on top, surviving a fightback after going 3-0 up to triumph 4-2 with the aid of a 59 break.

It was the third time Ward had lifted the silverware.

The league continues to go from strength to strength and saw a record number of century breaks, 11 – in all cup competitions, with a magnificent seven of those being knocked in by former professional Adrian Rosa (Lea Hall).

The various trophies were dished out with Jamie Harris, Mick Faulkner, Steve Barton, Jack Harris, Kane Grigg, Robbie James and Rich Hunt of Golden Cue A walking away with the Premier Division spoils.

They were crowned champions for the third consecutive year, pipping long-time challengers and runners-up Willenhall Liberal A by eight points.

James also collected another gong after sharing the most wins prize (20) with Wednesfield Cons A’s Paul Harrison.

Ward was also a double winner with his 98 taking the highest break award in the Premier.

The Division One silverware was collected by Bloxwich Memorial B (Simon Kelly, Aaron Gale, Josh Walker, Bob Davies, Martin Reilly, Pete Griffiths) who lead the way from the start of the season.

Willenhall Liberal B finished seven points behind in second place.

Again the most wins was shared with Alex Humphries (Pelsall Social B) and Josh Walker (Bloxwich Memorial B) raking up 18. Humphries had the highest break with 47.

The Colebatches squad of Ken Gittings, Brian Wright, Ian Beale, George Beale, Paul Humphries, Mohammed Jay, Malcolm Fry, Tony Anson and Steven Cotterill led the way in Division Two.

JD’s SC also made the step up after finishing second while Wright recorded the most wins with 19. Gavin Richards (JD’s SC)took the best break accolade with 57.

The league’s AGM will be held at Pelsall Social Club on Wednesday, July 4 (8pm).
