Dudley Kingswinford have been urged by director of rugby Neil Shillingford to be more ruthless despite winning 59-27 at Lutterworth.

The bonus-point victory means that DK remain third in the table – six points behind unbeaten Bromsgrove, writes Joe Edwards.

Shillingford felt his men took their foot off the gas in the closing stages though.

“It was a journey into the unknown as we hadn’t played them before and we managed to come away with exactly what we wanted, a bonus-point win,” he said.

“That being said, and being a bit critical, we sort of switched off in the last 10 or 15 minutes. We let them get the bonus point.

“To be up there, where we want to be, you have to be ruthless and really put teams to the sword when you are on top.

“We got we wanted, it’s just about those finishing touches – killing teams off.”

DK went in front early as Luke Trevis touched down on the left, no conversion.

A penalty from the hosts reduced the deficit but Matt Perks grabbed a try, Nic Adams adding the extras, for a 12-3 lead.

That advantage was cut to just two points as Lutterworth got a converted try.

But DK went into the break 31-10 up thanks to tries from Stefan Shillingford, Adams and Trevis – Adams converting two of them.

The home started the second period brightly, with a try.

Using the wind though, Shillingford’s charges were able to pin Lutterworth into their 22 – leading to tries for Sam Pedley and Perks, both converted by Adams, to lead 45-15.

Adams then kicked between the posts following a try each from Shillingford and Jordan Brookes, before the hosts got the bonus point through two tries late on.

DK host Melbourne on Saturday, and Shillingford added: “It’s another trip into the unknown for us.

“We’ve never played them before but we are looking to continue our good run of form, and put on a good performance.”

Stourbridge Lions enjoyed a comfortable 32-10 victory over Sutton Coldfield.

A penalty from Tom Mitchell after two minutes was countered by a Sutton try almost immediately afterwards for an early 5-3 lead. However, a sweeping move from a scrum on 10 minutes saw Cass Brookes break through on to a pass from Rhys Williams and feed Will King for an easy touchdown, converted by Mitchell for a 10-5 lead.

The Lions were never significantly threatened after that. Their second try soon came, through George Tildesley.

Scotty Langdon then powered over, with a conversion and a further penalty putting them 25-5 up at the break.

Sutton reduced the deficit with a try before Brookes’ try was converted by Mitchell late on.

A line-out just outside the away 22 saw Rhys Williams give a show and go to break through, then showing fine judgement to put Brookes over, with the inevitable conversion from Mitchell.

It was an emotional day as the club paid tribute to John Hope.

A Lions official for many years, he passed away the previous day.

His many friends and the players of both clubs observed a minute’s silence in his memory before the game.

Wolverhampton are now five games without a win in the league. They lost 34-12 at Stoke-on-Trent.
