The Steelmen easily saw off the West Midlands League Premier’s basement boys at Queen Street, to move up to 12th.

It followed an 8-0 loss to Wolverhampton Sporting the weekend prior.

“Obviously we were happy to bounce back from the week before, but we should have been better,” said Hamilton.

“The clean sheet was the massive thing for me, although it was nice to score that many goals.

“There’s still a lot of learning for the lads to – there’s a lot of room for improvement.”

On why he was not very happy with his side’s display, Hamilton added: “In the middle of the game, when we were 3-0 up, we started shooting from 40 yards and doing silly stuff.

“We managed to regain our discipline towards the end but in the middle, we didn’t do a professional job.

“We have a young side, two 17-year-olds were playing, but there are enough old heads in the camp to help them – we have got to improve.

“Unfortunately, Welly Ams are in real trouble despite signing a lot of new players and being under new management.”

Also in the division, Wolverhampton Casuals kept up their hot streak by beating Dudley Town 4-1.

The Brinsford Lane outfit, who have won their last five games, host Bilston in the Premier Division Cup tonight.

Black Country Rangers have dropped to seventh following a 3-2 loss at Ellesmere Rangers.

Smethwick drew 0-0 with Malvern Town while Dudley Sports were beaten 3-1 at Bewdley Town.

In the Birmingham FA Saturday Vase, Darlaston Town 1874 beat AEI Rugby 2-1.

The first round clash was watched on by their 1990/91 and 1991/92 Vase winning sides.

Hayden Hughes and Scott Broadway scored for the hosts before Jim Smith’s strike led to a nail-biting finish.

Willenhall Town are out though, after a 2-1 defeat at Coventrians – Shaun Taylor on the mark for the Lockmen.

Wolverhampton United managed to win 4-2 on penalties after drawing 3-3 with Team Dudley.

Old Wulfrunians and Bustlehome are also through but Tipton Town and Wrens Nest are out.

In the Midland League Premier, Mike Perks was the hero as Sporting Khalsa won 3-2 at Coleshill Town.

Kyle Brady put Ian Rowe’s side ahead on 25 minutes, capitalising on a fortuitous deflection to shoot past Paul Hathaway.

Reece Leek and Gio Dainty put the hosts in front before Tes Robinson equalised and Brady struck stoppage-time.

Khalsa are third and host fourth-placed Worcester City tonight.

In the Midland League Division One, Heath Hayes’ winless run extended to three games.
