Hockey: Cannock hold champions to a draw

Cannock extended their unbeaten run in Conference North to three games as they drew 3-3 at University of Durham.

The Chase Park side raced into an early lead at last year’s champions, through Callum Stacey’s penalty corner – five minutes in.

Matt Wilson then struck at the back post to make it 2-0 to the away side, before Richard Jackson replied for the hosts to make it 2-1 going into the break.

Durham made a flying start to the second period and pulled level through Rhys Smith, and Alex Holmes soon put them in front.

Stacey fired home another penalty corner five minutes from time to earn a share of the spoils. Cannock host Doncaster on Saturday.

In the Midlands Premier, Stourport are yet to win.

They were thrashed 6-1 by Harborne and travel to Lichfield, who have lost all four of their games, on Saturday.

Old Halesonians also suffered a 6-1 trouncing, at the hands of Boots in Midlands One.

In Midlands Two, Garry Oates and Matt Whitehouse found the net as Bloxwich drew 2-2 at Telford & Wrekin.

Aldridge & Walsall made it two wins from two in the West Midlands Premier as they beat Bromsgrove 2-1. Stafford lost a 4-3 thriller against Sikh Union (Coventry) while West Bromwich were on the end of an 8-0 against Redditch.

In West Midlands One, Wolverhampton won 4-2 at Wednesbury while Old Wulfrunians lost 2-1 at Alpha. in the Women’s Conference West, Cannock beat Oxford Hawks 4-1 and Stourport drew 0-0 with Gloucester City.
