Midland League: Sporting Khalsa chasing a quick-fire double

Sporting Khalsa host Shawbury United tonight in the Midland League Cup, after beating them 2-0 at home in Premier Division action at the weekend.

Craig Bannister and Dave Meese got the goals at the Aspray Arena – extending their unbeaten run to three games – and they clash again tonight in the second round (kick-off 7.45pm) of the cup, after being given byes.

Khalsa boss Ian Rowe said: “We had lots of chances on Saturday, could’ve been more.

“We are three games unbeaten now so we just need to try go get a good a run together, keep going on, and get a win in the league cup. We seem to be going the right way.

“We have got a big squad here of around 18 or 19 players and we will be looking to utilise that.

“This was one we earmarked at the start of the season to give a few lads a chance to impress and get us into the next round.”

Also in the second round, after being given a bye, are Division One side Heath Hayes.

They travel to Uttoxeter Town, looking for a confidence booster after losing 4-2 to Littleton on Saturday.

Walsall Wood, who lost 3-1 Hereford in the final two seasons ago at Damson Park, host Chelmsley Town in the first round of the cup, after their first league loss of the campaign.

The ambitious outfit, who have former Saddlers winger Peter Till, were beaten 2-0 at Leicester Road.

Lye Town, who have only lost once in the league this term, welcome Paget Rangers to the Sports Ground.

AFC Wulfrunians are at home against Droitwich Spa, Brocton go up against South Normanton Athletic at Silkmore Lane, Stourport Swifts host Cadbury Athletic and Stafford Town take on Nuneaton Griff at home.
