Sports-mad Jed Benson, aged 11, celebrated a unique feat as he hit a hole-in-one, which measured at 183 yards.

He was playing in the Inter-club Junior Betterball event at Druids Heath Golf Club course in Aldridge.

His team of three, including father Peter and a fellow club member, took on three other teams and they were on the seventh hole when he made the impressive shot.

The schoolboy, who has just left Lichfield Cathedral School to join Denstone College next month, amazed his golf-loving grandfather Stan Wade with the achievement and enjoyed sharing his news with the club’s more senior members – many of whom have gone decades without recording a hole-in-one.

“The seventh is a hard green to see as it’s above you,” said his father Peter.

“He hit it fairly low and we heard a thud, thinking that it had hit the flag and bounced away so he walked over a bit glum. We couldn’t find the ball!

"Then we noticed it in the hole. It was disbelief, he was shouting it to everyone, we had to tell him to shush.

“His grandad and uncle on his mum’s side got him into the sport. His uncle Ryan has done it twice but his grandad has never hit one in about 40 years.

"He was telling everyone in the club house, they hadn’t had one in 30 years or however long.”

The trio finished second in the competition last Tuesday.

Jed also plays rugby for Sutton Coldfield and cricket for Aldridge Cricket Club. He first picked up a golf club at the age of six – and since then he’s won a number of rookie competitions.
