Serial winner Dan is the main man

Daniel Ward has become the most decorated player in the history of the Staffs and West Midlands Snooker League.

The Sedgley Ex-Service potter added another piece of silverware to his sizeable haul by claiming the Plate Competition.

Ward rolled in breaks of 46 and 44 on his way to a 3-1 success against Chris Ward (Stafford Institute).

It was his first Plate success having previously won the Individual Championship, Individual Handicap, Junior Championship, Pairs Medley, Foursomes, 3x2 Handicap and the Division One title.

Mark Gilbert (Sedgley WMC) also had cause for celebration after lifting the Secretaries Handicap title.

Gilbert, the league’s general secretary, beat Neil Beckley (Hotshots) by a comfortable aggregate score of 189-105 despite a 48 break from Beckley.

There was a team triumph for The Paul Hunter Foundation in the Consolation Cup final.

The Division Four side overcame Division Six outfit Pennfields D 546-512 to claim the trophy for the second time having won it in 2015.

Connor Showell, Nathan Edwards, Jodie Humphries and Tom Hurst all won for the Foundation with Bill Bird the only Pennfields player to offer any resistance.

Hotshots are in pole position to win the race for Division One glory.

The championship battle turned in Hotshots’ favour after they beat Stafford Institute A4-1 away from home while title rivals Sedgley Ex-Service and Brandhall Labour both lost.

Callum Downing (40), Roy Stokes, Milan Krstanovic and Jamie Brown secured the win for Hotshots which took them a step nearer to their first title.

Sedgley Ex-Service A saw their challenge go up in smoke when they were crushed 5-0 by Shifnal A.

Matt Davies rolled in a fine break of 95 for the Shropshire side with Chris Jones, Shaun Harris (47), Ian Duffy and Paul Lloyd (59) also winning.

Reigning champions Brandhall Labour A hopes of landing a sixth straight title took a huge hit when they went down to a shock 3-2 reverse at home to Cannock Cons A.

Riley Parsons, Mick Faulkner (50) and Dave Coborn were on target for Cons.

Karl Ashmore (79) and Alan Hooper responded for Labour, who are now three points behind Hotshots.

Division Two leaders Willenhall Liberal B maintained their two-point lead going into the final week of the season with a 5-0 win against Pennfields B.

Scott Tapper (38), Simon Gough, Lee Bannister, Andy Price and Lee Thomson secured the whitewash.

Second-placed Sedgley WMC B who also whitewashed their opponents Bilston BC A 5-0 thanks to Steve Spicer, Mo Rucsaal (38), Shaf Hussain, Stuart Barker and Mark Gilbert.

Wolverhampton Electric A have already secured the Division Three title but there are no fewer than six clubs still in with a chance of securing one of the two remaining promotion places.

Wednesfield RBL A are now in second place after a hard-fought 3-2 away victory at struggling Fordhouses CC A.

Amery made it three titles on the spin as they clinched the Division Four crown despite losing 3-2 to promotion hopefuls Bushbury Grid A.

Essington WMC A confirmed their instant return to Division Three with a 4-1 win at Forty Four Club C.

Division Five leaders Pennfields C sealed promotion but will have to wait another week to clinch the title after they suffered a heavy 4-1 home defeat to promotion contenders Bushbury Grid B.

Bushbury Grid C saw their lead at the top of Division Six cut to one point despite defeating promotion candidates Forty Four Club B.

Liam Boucher, Darren Shirley and Paul Wakeman, in the decider, saw Bushbury home after Andrew Crowther and Sean Rowley had pit Forty Four 2-0 up.
