Going into the game in second spot, 57 points behind table-toppers Berkswell, Wolverhampton won the toss and elected to field.

The visitors were not at their most efficient with the bat – number two Nathan Round only managed 10 and skipper Neil Pinner did not fare much better with 17.

Usman Arif was proving a menace with the ball and claimed five wickets, but a late 47 partnership between Chris Russell and Gareth Williams edged Kidderminster to a total of 183-10.

Those extra runs proved to be crucial and the away side would have thanked Russell for his display. Wasim Jaffer bludgeoned 59 from 92 balls.

But some fine bowling, particularly from Russell who got five wickets, saw Wolverhampton finish 19 runs short and Kidderminster move up to second in the table.

At the other end, Walsall are just two points above the drop zone as a result of a loss at Ombersley.

They would have felt hard done by after batting first and ending 271-7, with Tim Maxfield smashing 111, Mike Hingley getting 67 and David Powles 65.

The home side just proved too strong and, despite skipper Powles' best efforts with three wickets, finished 274-5 after 53.3 overs.

Walsall are 10th and one place above them are West Bromwich Dartmouth, who got a winning draw against Knowle & Dorridge.

Skipper Kadeer Ali, also captain of Staffordshire, hit 20, with his cousin Kabir adding 68 and Ateeq Javid getting 75 as they finished with a total of 218-8.

Knowle & Dorridge ended with a total of 211-8, with Dartmouth getting 14 points from the game – eight game points, three batting points and three bowling points.

In Division One, Smethwick dropped to third after a losing draw at home against leaders Brockhampton.

They finished 40 runs short of the visitors but are still firmly in the title race, just five points behind.

Another side still in with a shout are fourth-placed Himley, who beat strugglers Old Hill by five wickets.

Greg Wright was the star man, hitting 122 runs – 14 boundaries – from 161 balls.

The loss means Old Hill are still firmly in the relegation places, 27 points behind third-bottom Bromsgrove.

Wombourne were defeated by six wickets at Shifnal in Division Two.

They struggled to deal with the hosts' bowling prowess, with Jack Edwards and Jack McIver getting seven wickets between them.

Wombourne were all out for 118 and Shifnal chased down the total with ease.

Wombourne's Ben Hudson bowled out at Shifnal.

Elsewhere in the division, Penkridge won by eight wickets at Coventry & North Warwickshire.

Cannock & Rugeley Hawks picked up 24 points against Old Elizabethans and Halesowen were victorious at bottom-of-the-table Stourbridge.

In Division Three, Fordhouses stayed top with a win over Handsworth.

Fordhouses batted first and finished with a total of 205-10, with Chris Guest getting five wickets to help ensure Handsworth fell short in their reply.

Streetly are fourth after a comfortable victory against Whitchurch, in which Audy Alexander got six wickets. Worfield, Lichfield and Brewood all lost.

In the Premier Division this weekend, Kidderminster are in for a big clash with leaders Berkswell and Wolverhampton take on Kenilworth Wardens.
