Home delights for Wolves boss Nuno

Having been separated from his wife and two daughters – back in Portugal – for large parts of the past year because of Covid-19, they finally had the chance to reunite over the international break.

Nuno, who lives with his son, was visited by them in what was their first time together since Christmas.

“It wasn’t in the circumstances that we all wish, but I had a chance to be with my family,” said Nuno.

“It was a great lift for me, for them, for everyone and us as a family.

“You need time together and it’s been a long period without each other.”

Nuno has previously spoken of the difficulties of being away from his family, with other members of the Wolves squad also enduring problems brought on by the pandemic – Ruben Neves missing the birth of his third child.

“Everybody realises and we have to understand that it’s not our fault,” said Nuno.

“We have to obey the rules, we have to be compliant with the protocols and testing. Everything has changed, our freedom, where we live as a community has changed.

“We are trying to adapt and most families have to adapt and change some things.

“We’ve faced a long period without being able to visit our own countries.

“We are delighted to work here, but when we joined Wolves we always had this space for a couple of days off to maybe get a flight and have a quick visit, kiss your daughters, and come back, but now it is not possible.”

On tonight’s test against West Ham, Nuno added: “We’ll prepare for it very well, compete and play the game. Nothing has changed.”
