Ruben Neves demands a big improvement for Wolves
Ruben Neves says it feels amazing to have finally got back to winning ways – but knows Wolves still need to 'improve a lot'.
A bonkers clash with Arsenal saw Nuno Espirito Santo's side run out 2-1 victors on Tuesday night, ending an eight-game winless run in the Premier League.
And Neves, insisting the long-awaited triumph lifts a big weight off their shoulders, wants Wolves to start building momentum as they prepare for the visit of Leicester on Sunday.
On their first three points of 2021, he said: "It's amazing, to be honest.
"It's really hard when we try to do everything we can but the results are not coming.
"We knew that we needed to improve our game a lot.
"We were struggling, we needed to get that confidence back, but now we have got three points.
"We're still not on our best form, we're still not playing how we want to play.
"We still need to improve a lot, but these three points mean a lot for us.
"It's very important points for us and it gives us confidence for the rest of the season. I'm really happy and proud of the team."
Neves got on the scoresheet from the penalty spot against the Gunners while midfield partner Joao Moutinho's amazing long-range strike proved to be the winner.
It was Moutinho's first goal of the season, and remarkably his first at Molineux since joining Wolves in the summer of 2018.
"We have a lot of quality in our squad, so this can happen in all the games," said Neves.
"We always have someone who can do something different, and this time it was Joao.
"It was an amazing goal, so I'm very happy for him. I saw it from behind, it was unbelievable.
"And I'm really happy for the team as it's an amazing three points for us, a huge three points for us."
Neves also believes clear-the-air talks between Nuno and the players in the build-up to the Arsenal game were important.
Wolves are now hoping to climb up the table as they still sit 14th, on 26 points from 22 matches this campaign.
"It's part of our job. When things are well, it's always easier to work. It was really important for us to talk," added Neves.
"So, I'm really happy to get the three points again, and it gives us all a lot of confidence."
