Returning to action behind-closed-doors at Compton after a month away because of Covid-19, they beat Stourbridge Ladies 3-0 in the first round of the competition.

Anna Morphet, Jade Cross and Kelly Darby got the goals in the swirling rain last weekend, and McNamara said: "It was difficult.

"The circumstances were difficult and the weather was difficult. I’m just really proud of the players in what was ultimately a really professional performance.

“We knew it was about just getting our names in the hat. Stourbridge are a difficult team to play against but as long as we’re in the hat for the next round then I’m delighted.

“It was a difficult game to play the way that we do, but credit to Stourbridge.”

Morphet scored directly from a corner in the first half, with Cross then slotting home and defender Darby powering past several Stourbridge players before firing in.

Wolves Women return to National League Division One Midlands against Bedworth on Sunday – also without fans.

On coming back after the enforced break due to the November lockdown, McNamara added: “It’s difficult with the time away.

“The girls have been working on their own individual training plans during lockdown, so they look good and fresh.”
