John Ruddy

Did not cover himself in glory with the goal, at all. May have thought Brown was going to go for the far corner and the shot had power behind it, but Ruddy, ultimately, should have saved it.

He will be disappointed to have let that one in, no doubt. 4

Willy Boly

Looked to keep up with McClean in the build-up to the winner but the Stoke man got there first and was able to let the ball run through his legs to Brown, who finished. Not Boly's best display. 5

Conor Coady

Played a great crossfield pass to Traore in the first half and was solid before the goal, for which Wolves – as a whole – were at sixes and sevens. 6

Romain Saiss

Similarly to Coady, was OK prior to Brown's goal, which, again, all of the defence will be disappointed with. 6

Oskar Buur

A rare start for the Dane and a decent enough display. No mistakes defensively, but not that effective going forward either. 6

Ruben Neves

Strangely quiet. Recycled the ball but did not influence the game anywhere near as much you would have expected him to. 5

Leander Dendoncker

Also failed to make his mark in this game. Plenty of running but nothing of real note. 5

Ruben Vinagre

An opportunity to stake a claim but Fernando Marcal's spot at left-wing-back should be safe for Manchester City on Monday. Wasteful at times. 5

Vitinha

Came off on the hour mark but looked fairly tidy on his first Wolves start. Carried the ball gracefully. 6

Fabio Silva

Missed a big chance to open his account on his gold and black bow, of course, but there were some positive signs from the £35million signing.

Showed some nice touches and was constantly on the move, looking to get on the ball. 6

Adama Traore

Had some joy in the first half but failed to track the run of Brown for the winner. A hugely overhit cross from him pretty much summed up Wolves' night. 5

Subs

Pedro Neto (for Vitinha, 60)

Went on a lovely run and teed up Silva, who saw his shot deflect out for a corner. 6

Raul Jimenez (for Buur, 66)

Brought on as Wolves looked to win it but ended up losing. Put himself about. 6

Daniel Podence (for Dendoncker, 77)

Put in a couple of nice crosses. 6

Not used: Patricio (gk), Marcal, Moutinho, Shabani
