The former midfielder, who was at Molineux from 1993 until 1997, will be doing a virtual challenge on July 4 – the date he was given three months to live, in 2003.

Thomas and a team of 18 amateur cyclists were meant to be cycling stage nine of the Tour de France – a day ahead of the professionals – to raise £1million for Cure Leukaemia, but it had to be cancelled because of the Covid-19 outbreak.

They hope to complete the challenge in 2021 but for now, in partnership with Ribble Cycles, they are taking on two challenging rides on Zwift – a virtual cycling training programme. The aim is to get as many cyclists across the world taking part, too.
