Crystal Palace v Wolves preview: Morgan Gibbs-White recognises need to take chances

Morgan Gibbs-White is focusing on the positives ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Crystal Palace, although he admits Wolves are tired.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are going to Selhurst Park, where they won 1-0 last season through Matt Doherty, after losing to Braga in the Europa League on Thursday, writes Joe Edwards.

That, coupled with being downed by both Chelsea and Everton in the league, made it three straight defeats.

But teenager Gibbs-White felt Wolves played well against the Portuguese club, while recognising the need to sharpen up in front of goal against Roy Hodgson’s charges.

“You feel like you’re dominating the game and chances aren’t coming your way, it’s frustrating,” he said.

“We played well. The boys dominated possession.

“We had more chances, more shots, but it’s about taking those chances.

“On another day, we’re coming away with the victory.

“Fair play to Braga as they came out fighting, especially away from home.

“We played well, we implemented what the manager wants from us, so it’s unfortunate we couldn’t take the three points.

“Playing Thursday and Sunday is a massive test, but everyone is raring to go.

“Obviously, it’s taken its toll, and you can see that we’re tired, but we’re still working hard in training and still ready to go.”

Wolves are looking to get going in the Premier League after starting the term with five without a win.

Palace, meanwhile, are aiming to make amends after being thumped 4-0 at Tottenham last weekend. They have won one and drawn one at home in the league so far.

“We always believe.

“ We go again and, hopefully, we can go and get the victory at Palace,” said Gibbs-White.

“We go into every game confident, positive that we’re going to come away with the three points.

“It’s going to be a tough battle, a physical test, but we’ll be ready.”

Gibbs-White is hoping to be involved again after impressing as a starter against Braga.

The 19-year-old midfielder has previously spoken about wanting to take on a more prominent role this campaign, and added: “You’ve just got to take your chance when it comes.

“You have to be patient and when the time comes, take your chance.”

Nuno has no injury worries going into the encounter. Jesus Vallejo could return to the squad after being left out of the 18 for Braga.

Joao Moutinho, who is thought to be close to signing a new contract, is likely to come back into the starting line-up.

Diogo Jota could well partner Raul Jimenez in attack too after only coming on as a substitute on Thursday.

Scottish central midfielder James McArthur should be back for Palace after failing a late fitness test at Tottenham.
