No Wembley hangover says Wolves captain Conor Coady

Captain Conor Coady insisted Wolves' defeat at Southampton had absolutely nothing to do with a Wembley hangover.

Nuno Espirito Santo's team lost 3-1 at St Mary's, six days after their crushing FA Cup semi-final defeat to Watford.

Coady refused to blame the Southampton performance on what happened at Wembley.

"We've prepared right and I can promise you it had nothing to do with last week," Coady said.

"We had a job to do at Southampton and we've not done it, it's as simple as that.

"Monday and Tuesday (after Wembley) was tough, it was quiet, but we got back on it.

"We're just as disappointed with this defeat as we were then.

"It had nothing to do with what happened last week. It was horrible then and this week's exactly the same."

Wolves were uncharacteristically poor defensively at St Mary's, conceding three goals and a hatful of other chances.

"It was really disappointing from our point of view," Coady said.

"The goals were poor from our points of view – Southampton would probably tell you they were quite good – but from our point of view they were really poor, we were too open, we weren't close together enough.

"The second goal killed us, coming so quickly after our goal.

"We never took as many risks (going forward) as we probably would have liked. They hit us on the counter attack.

"We were just too open, we weren't close enough to each other.

"We speak about it all the time. We were doing things we don't usually do, playing into people's feet when they're marked and things like that. Then we're open.

"We need to look where we've gone wrong, it's not like us. We need to get back to what we were doing.

"We've got to look at it this week and improve, big time."

Wolves jetted off to Marbella on Saturday night for a quick getaway in the sun.

They'll return on Thursday ahead on this weekend's visit of Brighton to Molineux.

"It always works well for us," Coady said of Wolves' third excursion to Marbella in 15 months. "It's no different to being in Wolves really – just the weather.

"We like to stick together, we do things out there together. It's just about sticking together.

"We've done it quite a lot in the last couple of seasons and it's helped. We eat dinner together, we have breakfast together, we do quite a lot together.

"It's not just football, we do things off the pitch as well so it's good for team spirit and things like that.

"It only helps. We'll look at Saturday and go again."
