Striker Troy Deeney, who broke Wolves hearts with a last-gasp equaliser from the penalty spot, said he suffered racist abuse after posting a series of pictures on his Instagram account of his celebrations on the pitch and afterwards with family and friends.

Teammates Adrian Mariappa and Christian Kabasele also said they were targeted. Watford went on to win 3-2 in extra time.

The Hertfordshire force said it has not received any reports over the allegations but vowed to carry out an investigation if it does.

The force said in a statement: "At this time, Hertfordshire Constabulary has not received any reports relating to alleged racist comments made on social media following the Watford v Wolverhampton Wanderers game at Wembley on Sunday, April 7.

"However local officers have already made contact with Watford FC to ensure that if and when any reports are received, the victims are fully supported and a full investigation is carried out."
