Bully: Break should do Wolves some good ahead of the run-in

The international break has come at a perfect time for Wolves.

The players will be itching to keep on playing matches as they’re in a winning habit, but with a big few weeks to come at the end of the season it’s a great opportunity to recharge the batteries.

There’s a big week ahead when they come back with league games against Burnley and Manchester United and then of course the FA Cup semi-final against Watford at Wembley.

If we were in a relegation battle and had just won a game like last weekend, we’d want another one straight away.

However, a few days of rest is just what’s needed at the moment.

The lads have put in a huge effort during the past few weeks and I’m sure there are plenty of aches and pains after such a demanding workload. Not that all of them will be getting a break!

Having 10 players called up for international duty is just unbelievable to be honest, I don’t remember numbers like that before. Diogo Jota was fully deserving of his first ever call-up for the Portugal senior side after enjoying a prolific run of form in the past few months.

He was off the boil at the start of the season and took a while to get on the scoresheet.

But since the start of December when Nuno tweaked the system a bit he’s absolutely thrived and is causing problems for defences every single week.

I suspect the gaffer took him to one side and told him to just relax more and try and play his own game.

He’s only 5ft-something but you can see from that Man United goal last weekend he’s so strong, he barges past defenders who are bigger and stronger than him and then he’s got a quality finish at the end of it.

Looking ahead to the next two games, we may see Nuno rest a few with one eye on Watford.

He’ll have to think logically now. To be honest I’m happy with seventh, eighth, ninth or 10th, a top-half finish would be magnificent.

Yes, seventh may offer a Europa League place, but with the FA Cup we’ve only got to win two games to get there – and obviously win a trophy as well.

That’s the priority now.
