Wolves were much the better side and deserved their semi-final-sealing victory over Manchester United, according to Alan Shearer, Paul Ince and Ian Wright.

Speaking on BBC's live coverage of the 2-1 win for Wolves at Molineux after the final whistle, the panel of pundits gave the hosts plenty of praise.

Former England and Newcastle striker Shearer was particularly effusive when asked by host Gary Lineker about their display.

"Brilliant. They thoroughly deserved it. They were much the better team," he said.

"Their game-plan worked to perfection. They sat deep and defended in the first half, and knew they would get chances in the second half – and they stuck them away.

"Man United looked absolutely shattered. They didn't have anything.

"Wolves have shown the respect the competition deserves by playing strong teams.

"They haven't got a big squad, but they've always gone out and played a strong team.

"They deserve to be in that semi-final because they've been absolutely magnificent, all season."

And Shearer was very impressed by Wolves scorers Raul Jimenez and Diogo Jota.

"Wolves have belief in what they're doing and the two guys up front, Jimenez and Jota ran United ragged," he said.

"Those two epitomised everything that Wolves are about. They were superb and gave United's back four such a tough night.

"What a brilliant job Nuno is doing! They just had too much energy for United."

Ince, who played for both United and Wolves, hailed Nuno's charges for rising to the occasion.

"I think they fully deserved it," said the former old gold skipper.

"We've not seen scenes like this for a long, long time at Molineux.

"When you play the top teams, every man has to be on their game from the first whistle to the last whistle.

"They were focused, concentrated, everyone knew their jobs, and they got their just desserts in the end.

"For me, it's all about Wolves. They thoroughly deserved it."

Wright had some kind words for the defensive efforts of skipper Conor Coady, Willy Boly and Romain Saiss against United's attacking trio of Marcus Rashford, Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial.

"Without a shadow of a doubt, they've got to take a load of credit," he added.

"It was Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's preferred line-up, but they were totally negated by Conor Coady and the guys at the back.

"Sergio Romero was United's man of the match, that says a lot."
