Wolves' spot-kick scored by Raul Jimenez, awarded after Matt Doherty was taken out late by Adam Smith, was one of several talking points from the 1-1 draw.

It was one of three penalties, with the final one being missed by Josh King – after Ryan Fraser went down outside the box – after King scored the first.

On referee Roger East's display, Howe said: "There was a lot in the game – penalty incidents and decisions which, depending which club you play for or represent, sway your decision.

"I thought Ryan's was probably outside the box, in all honesty.

"In our first one, I saw something, a tangling of legs.

"The one I probably have the biggest opinion on is Wolves' penalty.

"You just rarely see them given. Adam has committed to the challenge and Doherty has got his shot away.

"I really wasn't expecting a penalty to be given.

"If it's outside the box, I've seen fouls given but inside the box, a foul is rarely given for that. I was surprised about that one."

But Howe was pleased to pick up a point against a strong Wolves side.

"From our perspective, the players gave everything," he added.

"I was very pleased with our attitude to the game.

"Considering the players we had out, the players that came in really stepped up and that's hugely important.

"It shows the strength of the squad that we have. Overall, there were a lot more positives than negatives."
