Premier League table does not lie says Wolves' Matt Doherty

Matt Doherty feels Wolves fully deserve to be where they are in the Premier League as 'the table doesn't lie'.

Following on from last season's Championship triumph, Wolves currently sit seventh in the top flight.

A 1-1 draw on Monday with Newcastle prompted their midfielder Isaac Hayden to say he struggles to see why Doherty and Co are so high in the table, but the Irishman said: "The table doesn't lie.

"We're there for a reason and I think we deserve to be there – we play some nice stuff and have been getting some good results, and when it's like that you can't wait for the next league game."

Wolves are now four unbeaten in the league and are turning their attention to the FA Cup on Sunday as they travel to Bristol City in the last 16 of the competition.

And Doherty insists Willy Boly's late leveller against the Magpies was very important.

"It was so important that we didn't lose the game," he added.

"You never want to lose a match, especially at home and especially with the kind of form we've been in lately.

"Even when time was running out, I always thought we were going to get one more chance and score.

"It obviously doesn't always happen like that, but that's the way things are going for us at the moment, and it always feels a bit better when you score late on like that."
