Wolves captain Conor Coady: Late goals are in our nature

Skipper Conor Coady says Wolves’ refusal to throw in the towel comes naturally and is not something you can teach.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have scored a whopping 14 goals in the 80th minute onwards this season – the same as Huddersfield have netted in the Premier League all campaign.

The latest of those was Willy Boly’s stoppage-time header, which sealed a 1-1 draw with Newcastle on Monday, and defensive partner Coady said: “It is everyone coming together as a football club.

“I don’t think you can teach or learn that kind of thing. It is the character within the group, and we have a small group, but we know players will fight until the end to get a point or a win – and we have to keep going until the end.”

Wolves have also come up with six goals in the 90th minute onwards this term – and that has played a big part in their rise to seventh in the top-flight table.

“We never give up. We have players in that dressing room who never give up, and we have shown that this year,” said Coady.

“It is something we like to have in our locker.

“As a footballer, you have to have that willingness and that fight to get back in the game and get a point or a win.

“We are a close-knit squad, and everyone knows we never give up, and big Boly deserved his goal at the end.

“It was a tough game, we knew Newcastle were going to set up to frustrate us, but we kept patient and luckily we got the break in the end.

“We have 39 points, it is fantastic. It is good, but we would like to have more.”

He added: “It would have been a crime if we never came away with something if I am being honest.”
