Slater, who died last month aged 91, will be honoured with a minute’s applause at Molineux prior to kick-off.

He made 334 appearances between 1952 and 1963, scoring 30 times, and won 12 England caps.

Slater was part of Wolves’ golden generation through the 1950s – winning three top-flight titles, and the 1960 FA Cup as skipper when they beat Blackburn Rovers 3-0 at Wembley.

Born in Clitheroe, he was appointed an OBE for his services to sport in 1982, upgraded to a CBE in 1998.

He also has the distinction of being the only part-time player to win the Footballer of the Year award, doing so in 1960 when simultaneously studying for a Bachelor of Science degree.

Slater passed away following a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease and illness.
