Matt Jarvis, George Elokobi and Chris Iwelumo were at the Cleveland Arms to share stories of

the 2008/09 Championship-winning campaign under Mick McCarthy.

They posed for pictures with supporters before taking to the stage, where fellow ex-Molineux favourite Matt Murray was asking the questions.

SCORED

Cult hero Elokobi set the tone for the rest of an entertaining night as, after walking on to Hi Ho Wolverhampton, he declared he wanted to ‘go back to Molineux and kick some a**’.

Iwelumo, who scored 14 goals en route to the title, was delighted to go over some fantastic memories with the Wolves faithful.

“The funny thing is that a lot of the squad have stayed in contact,” said the Scot.

“That is pretty rare in football. I had 18 clubs, and you don’t keep in touch with everyone, but that was such a great group that achieved something very, very special.

“We got to top spot in September and stayed there – and went up as champions.

“It was absolutely outstanding. We did concede some goals, but we’d score more. We had a swagger. It was a special group, and it’s been good to be amongst some good characters, never mind footballers.”

Jarvis – the last Wolves player to get an England cap – revealed it was his first time back in the city since leaving for West Ham in 2012, and was grateful for the ovation he received. Looking back on the triumphant term, the winger now with Norwich said: “That squad was brilliant and I was a pleasure to go out on to the Molineux pitch, in front of all the fans. It was a fantastic experience. We all wanted to prove ourselves – and that helped us.”

Bubbly character Elokobi said: “It’s always good to come back and see the Wolves faithful – the fans make the club. As soon as I heard about it, I wanted to be involved straight away. I call Wolves my family so it’s always good to see everyone.”

Host Murray added: “It’s always great to have the lads back. It’s great to have put another night on which the fans have loved.

“That team gave the fans some great times, and there’s been a lot of love here for them.”

Murray will be hosting another event at the Cleveland Arms on Thursday, December 13 with Mark Walters.
