A 'different philosophy' in the medical department has helped Wolves field the same XI for every Premier League game so far, according to sporting director Kevin Thelwell.

Nuno Espirito Santo has set a Premier League record with his team selections, picking the same team for all nine matches.

The head coach included his medical and physiotherapy staff on the photo for his recent manager of the month award for September.

Thelwell said: "Antonio (Dias) on the sports science side has developed a different philosophy,” he said.

“The sports science department and medical team are almost hand in glove.

“We have up to about 98 per cent availability for the first-team squad, which is highly commendable and a great testament to work done by Antonio, Phil Hayward and the rest of the team.

“Touch-wood it continues.”

Thelwell was speaking during a meeting of the Wolves Fans’ Parliament.

During the meeting he also said the club’s youngsters will benefit hugely from playing in this season’s Checkatrade Trophy.

Rob Edwards’ team need to beat Lincoln next month or face elimination from the tournament after drawing with Scunthorpe and losing to Mansfield in their opening two fixtures.

“We are playing in senior stadiums against senior teams,” Thelwell said. “We were disappointing at Mansfield but played well at Scunthorpe.

“This is part of their development and they are learning to play at a very high level.

“We want them to raise their standards. It’s a great competition and I’m delighted we’re in it. The players will learn hugely from the experience.”
