Wolves stars eye international bow

Portugal face Poland in the Nations League while Spain play Wales in an international friendly.

Both the Wolves players have earned their first international call-ups after impressing with Wolves this season.

Costa joins Ruben Neves and Rui Patricio in the Portuguese squad while Jonny is the only Spaniard at Wolves with a call-up.

Portugal face Poland tonight where three first-team Wolves players could be fielded together.

Rui Patricio is Portugal’s 19th most capped player ever with 74 appearances and won Euro 2016 with them.

Ruben Neves missed out on a spot in Portugal’s squad for the World Cup this summer, but has been called up to the international team in the past two international breaks, including this one.

The 21-year-old maestro looks set to be a key player in Portugal’s central midfield in the future and has made seven senior caps to his name.

Costa has come through the Portuguese youth ranks like Patricio and Neves.

Spain play in a friendly tonight against Wales and then play England in the Nations League on Monday.

Otto’s form for Wolves has seen him earn a spot in the squad ahead of Barcelona’s Jordi Alba at left-back.

A total of seven Wolves players have earned senior call-ups, while there have been two selected for under-21 squads and one for the under-19s.

Matt Doherty could also be in line for his first international debut for Ireland when they play play Denmark in the Nations League on Saturday.

The 26-year-old has only made three substitute appearance for Ireland, but heads into the international break after scoring his first Premier League goal and winning the PFA Player of the Month award.

Ireland also face Wales on Tuesday.

Raul Jimenez will rejoin the Mexican camp, who have two friendlies over the next two weeks – playing Costa Rica on Friday and Chile on Wednesday. Jimenez has made 66 appearances for ‘El Tri’ since 2013, netting 14 goals.

The 27-year-old, currently on loan from Benfica, heads into the break with two goals and three assists under his belt for Wolves, having been involved in 56 per cent of their goals.

Romain Saiss, who played in the World Cup, faces two competitive games against Comoros in the African Cup of Nations on Saturday and Tuesday. Ruben Vinagre has earned his first call-up to Portugal’s under-21 side and joins fellow team-mate Diogo Jota, who captains the side.

Morgan Gibbs-White, who won the 2017 FIFA Under-17 World Cup, joins the England under-19 camp.
