Steve Bull: Internationals have arrived at wrong time

The international break has come at the wrong time for Wolves.

Normally we welcome the international break, but we were on a roll in the Premier League and enjoying a snowball effect.

It is a shame these fixtures have disrupted that.

Mind you, I said this during the last international break, but that did not affect our performances. Fortunately, last time, our players came back unscathed so hopefully that is the case this time around.

I think Matt Doherty definitely deserves to start for Ireland given his run of form this season.

Him and Jonny either side of the pitch complement each other all day long.

Doherty has dug deep to keep in this Wolves side. He has rolled up his sleeves and said ‘I want to be here for the long term’.

He is one of the stars of the side at the moment and he richly deserves his award for PFA Player of the Month.

I don’t think his Ireland manager Martin O’Neill really needed to say that Doherty should ‘Push forward down the wing more’.

But Doherty has let his football do the talking. At the end of the day, players take on board what all their managers say to them, no matter who they play for.

All the players at Wolves are preforming great. You could pick out anyone in the side, they are performing brilliantly. It is a great side with great strength and they are a pleasure to watch.

We have certainly raised eyebrows with the football we are playing. That is great to see because football is all about entertaining the crowds.

Our football has paid off so far and we currently occupy seventh. That position could earn us a place in Europe at the end of the season.

I don’t want to start talking about that at the moment though, there is a long way to go.

The wheels could come off, we could get injuries and the team could not blend. As long as we stick together as a unit week in and week out, we should be OK.

Let us judge where we are at Christmas.
