Manchester United 0 Wolves 4 (Apr 1958)

This was the biggest win Wolves have ever earned at Old Trafford – and it came on their way to winning the Division One title. Peter Broadbent, Eddie Clamp, Norman Deeley and Ron Flowers scored the goals in a 4-0 thumping. Wolves had also won the earlier fixture 3-1 at home.

Soon after Wolves were crowned champions – the second of three titles in that decade.

However, this fixture came during a tragic time for United – just two months earlier the Munich Air Disaster took place where 23 people died, including eight Manchester United players, one of which was Dudley-born Duncan Edwards.

The last time Wolves won at Old Trafford was almost four decades ago in the old Division One.

More than 50,000 fans packed inside Old Trafford to watch the action where Wolves snatched a win thanks to Mel Eves scoring the decisive goal.

That season Wolves did the league double over United after they had beaten them at home five months earlier, with a 3-1 victory.

But this win at Old Trafford put a dent in United’s title ambitions.

They eventually finished in second place in the league – two points behind arch-rivals Liverpool. Meanwhile, Wolves finished in a comfortable sixth place.

Park Ji-sung snatched away what would have been an impressive draw for Wolves as he netted a 90th-minute winner for United.

The South Korean midfielder opened the scoring on the stroke of half-time with a close-range finish. But Mick McCarthy’s men bounced back in the second half, with Sylvan-Ebanks Blake equalising on 66 minutes. He leapt on to a weak shot from one of his team-mates before making space inside the box and firing through Edwin van der Sar’s legs.

But Park settled the game with a fine goal, dribbling from the right side of the box before evading a tackle and slotting the ball into the bottom right corner.

Wolves were easily beaten by United who eventually finished second behind Chelsea in the Premier League.

Wayne Rooney opened the scoring with a penalty in the 30th minute after Ronald Zubar handled the ball in the box.

Nemanja Vidic increased the lead just before the break and Antonio Valencia rounded off the proceedings on 66 minutes.

Mick McCarthy caused controversy when he made 10 changes from the side that had beaten Tottenham 1-0 three days earlier. Wolves were later issued with a suspended fine of £25,000 in a ruling that eventually led to the creation of 25-man squads in the Premier League.

Manchester United 4 Wolves 1 (Dec 2011)

It was almost seven years ago the last time Wolves travelled to old Trafford, where they were hammed 4-1 in the Premier League.

Nani opened the scored on 17 minutes before Wayne Rooney doubled United’s lead 10 minutes later. Steven Fletcher pulled one back just after half-time, on 47 minutes, but any hopes of a comeback were dashed when Nani and Rooney bagged another goal each within 15 minutes to comfortably seal the victory for Sir Alex Ferguson’s team. Wolves suffered another thrashing in the reverse fixture when they lost 5-0 at Molineux. They ended up finishing bottom and got relegated from the Premier League.
