The 22-year-old winger is due at Compton Park tomorrow for a medical and Wolves are hopeful of finalising the big-money move despite interest from other clubs – and a new contract offer from Championship side Boro.

Wolves saw an initial bid – believed to be £12million – rejected by Boro, who were desperate to hang on to their star man.

But Wolves met the player's £18m release clause on Sunday and ex-Barcelona and Villa winger Traore is now on the brink of moving to Wolves.

If the deal goes ahead it will be the fourth time Wolves have broken their transfer record since Fosun bought the club two years ago.

The signings of Ivan Cavaleiro (£7m), Helder Costa (£13m) and Ruben Neves (£15m) have preceded the Traore deal.

It will take Wolves' summer spending to the £55m mark, not including the £10m Benik Afobe outlay before his prompt sale to Stoke.
