There were unforgettable scenes on the pitch at Molineux with Danny Batth and Conor Coady lifting the trophy and the players and staff celebrating with the fans.

"It was a fantastic day," Nuno said. When you get something material you can hold on to that's when you feel you're champions.

"I think we were the best team in the competition, more consistent, and it's deserved for the hard work of the boys.

"It's a day we'll always remember.

"They waited for us and celebrated with us, it was fantastic and will stay in our memories, fantastic."

The game itself was largely forgettable. Wolves were the better team but spurned chances, with Benik Afobe, Romain Saiss and Bright Enobakhare going closest.

"The result was important, I think we deserved to win," Nuno said. "It wasn't possible but the work ethic was there, we are professionals until the end.

"We have to improve that final touch. Football is sometimes about being clinical and we missed that today, but the performance was good and we had good moments."

Nuno now wants to end the season with a win at Sunderland next weekend.

But first he said: "I'm going to celebrate tonight. I'll take a beer!

"We're going to celebrate because it's well deserved, then we'll rest and then play Sunderland and then we'll talk about the future.

"The season deserves to end better than today. It deserves to end with a win because this is what we've been doing all season."
