Nuno: Promotion just one step for us

Nuno Espirito Santo says Wolves’ promotion is just ‘one step’ in the bigger picture – as he eyes breaking a club record.

Wolves host Sheffield Wednesday today at Molineux where they will lift the Championship trophy.

If they beat the Owls they’ll smash the 100-point barrier – and then a win at Sunderland next week will see them beat the club record of 103 points in a season, set by Kenny Jackett’s League One title winners in 2014.

“It’s one step more and the realisation of a very good year we’ve had, all of us,” Nuno said of this season.

“When you get something that represents that it’s a prize.

“It doesn’t stop, it doesn’t finish. We still have to play Sheffield Wednesday and Sunderland and prepare the future. Football doesn’t stop.

“We still have a lot of things to go for (including) those things in terms of points.

“There are also individual things. And one thing someone mentioned to me that we still have to go to Sunderland and if we beat them we’ve beaten every team in the Championship.

“First we play against Sheffield Wednesday.”

Wolves have won the second tier title for the fourth time in their history.

It will be a day of celebration today with hundreds of fans expected to welcome the team bus outside Molineux, while all supporters are being given flags and a mosaic will be on show in the Steve Bull upper ahead of kick off.

“It’s going to be a very special moment for everybody at the club, the staff, the players, the coaches, especially the fans,” Nuno added.

“What we’ve achieved, we’re very proud of it.

“It’s a special moment in football to win something. I don’t think there are too many things that give you so much pleasure as picking up a trophy.

“The work of the players, they’ve been fantastic since the beginning. Every day was a day of hard work and to improve and the results are there.”
