The former striker, who netted 44 goals for the club, declared the football under Nuno Espirito Santo has been a joy to watch this season.

Wolves were crowned the Championship winners on Saturday after thrashing Bolton 4-0.

Eves spoke during the 30th anniversary dinner of the Wolves Former Players’ Association held at Molineux on April 19.

Eves, who played for Wolves during the 1970s and 80s, said: “It has been an absolute joy this season to watch the football on show.

“It has been one of the best seasons that I think most people can remember, certainly since the team were doing really well.

“Under Mick McCarthy we did well but we were really surviving. We weren’t expected to do nothing more than be OK.

“But the Fosun group, they mean business. But you also have to be very shrewd in the players that you bring in, the manager you bring in, and the way you integrate everything and get everyone singing off the same hymn sheet.

“From the original 1950s team, Wolves were the best in Europe let alone this country.

“That is why Wolves have got their heritage and why older guys, like me and generations gone by, appreciate Wolves are a big club.

“Make no mistake about it, they are a big club.

“It is really heart-warming to see as Wolves fan that we are back in the Premier League.

“Congratulations to everyone involved at Wolves from the top down.

“The manager Nuno, the fans love him, everyone loves him.”

Former Wolves players turned out in force for the special event which took place at Molineux.

Among them was former defender Jody Craddock. Craddock is an artist and has painted portraits of the current players, which have been used on the covers of match day programmes.

Craddock said: “It is brilliant to come along. I enjoy catching up with all the old players

“It has been a tremendous season and we have played some superb football.

“It is nice to be involved in such a fantastic season, when I started (my artwork) I didn’t realise we would get promoted but it has worked out fantastic.

“To be asked to do it is an honour.

“That will be part of history now forever. It is nice for me as an artist and an ex-player.”

Former goalkeeper Phil Parkes said: “It is great to be here.

“All the lads get back together.

“It has been a different type of football this past season.

“What the club have done this season has been fantastic.”
