Nuno: Wolves belong with the best

Wolves belong among the elite of English football, Nuno Espirito Santo believes.

With promotion back to the Premier League confirmed Wolves are setting their sights on making a big impact in the top flight next season.

And Nuno thinks for a club of Wolves’ size and history they’re back where they should be.

“I think the repercussions of the fact Wolves is back in the Premier League (are felt) all over the world,” Nuno said.

“It’s a very big club that I personally think belongs among the best teams in England.

“The impact is all over the world.

“Back in the 1950s and 60s... you just have to visit our stadium and go to the museum.

“It says a lot about the history of the club.”

It’s back to business for Wolves today as they aim to clinch the Championship title against relegation-threatened Bolton.

Nuno expects his team to perform – but admitted there’s been a calmness to the club this week.

“First of all we want to play a good game and perform well,” Nuno said.

“We expect a tough game and we will prepare well regarding the task and performance.

“We’ve proved to ourselves and everybody that the attitude we have (is to respect the league).

“Against Birmingham we knew we were promoted and the attitude and intensity was, first of all for us, and to be respectful to our opponent.

“The best way to respect the league and our opponents is compete to the maximum of our strengths.

“What has changed is the way we should interpret this

moment.

“Of course we have achieved something and can prepare ourselves with calmness and really focus on what we want to do, without the rush that the result sometimes causes you.

“But nothing changes. What we want is to go game by game – we’re not looking much further than that.”

Ruben Neves missed out on the EFL player of the year award to Ryan Sessegnon last weekend.

Nuno said he respected the decision.

“It’s a vote – if I could vote for the team my starting XI would be the squad of Wolverhampton,” the Wolves boss added.

“We have to respect the decision of other people.

“Ruben and everyone did a fantastic job this season.”
