With a young and developing team – and backed by Fosun's millions – hopes are high that the club can make an impact in the top flight.

And Dalrymple says ambitious Wolves can go into the Premier League without fear.

"We're looking at doing more than surviving," he said.

"I think the strategy we've had, definitely more pertinently in the past 12 months, has been about building a squad and a structure we think is going to be viable to take further, beyond promotion.

"We've got a really strong nucleus of people that can do that.

"Undoubtedly continued investment is going to be required, whether that's this summer or next summer that's just the nature of the beast.

"In order to compete on a continual basis we're going to have to invest and there'll be the appetite to do that.

"We want to be excited about the fact we're going to Chelsea, Man City, Liverpool etc but not overawed by that.

"We want to go with the mindset of we're going to play a match we think we have a right to win, just as much as they do.

"That will come from self confidence but also a strategy in terms of developing the squad and the club that can stand up and compete."

Plans are being drawn up for a summer of recruitment, with decisions soon made on which of the squad's six loan players – barring Diogo Jota who is already joining for around £13m – will stay permanently.

"We're going into the Premier League to take this club forward," Dalrymple added.

"It's a massive challenge. I couldn't give a target of finishing here or there – we're just going to compete as hard and as strong as we can.

"If we continue with the philosophy we've deployed this year and the quality of performance and self belief...I wouldn't say results would take care of themselves because it's a far more competitive environment, but I certainly think it'd be a positive position to be taking it forward from."
