Wolves fans urged to stay off pitch

Nuno Espirito Santo's team will secure promotion to the Premier League with victory over their West Midlands rivals at Molineux.

Managing director Laurie Dalrymple has urged supporters not to run onto the pitch, as has happened in the past including when Wolves last won promotion to the top flight in 2009.

"Should promotion be secured with a positive result, it’s a moment we’ve all been waiting for and one we all want to savour," Dalrymple said in a statement.

"In the interests of ensuring everyone’s enjoyment, and the health and safety of fans and staff, I’d urge all supporters to remain in their seats and refrain from encroaching on the pitch at any point during the afternoon.

"We still have further Championship fixtures to conclude at Molineux after today so need to protect the playing surface and eradicate any possible sanctions from the FA, which could jeopardise the good work of everyone this season."

Should Wolves go up Nuno and the players will return to the pitch after full time for a lap of honour.

Wolves could already be promoted by Sunday if Fulham fail to beat Brentford on Saturday evening.

Wolves and Blues fans have regularly clash in the past. West Midlands Police insist they will have enough officers to deal with any situation.

Match commander, Superintendent Nick Rowe, said: "A derby game is always a special occasion and we are well aware of how important this particular match is to both clubs.

"There will be two sets of passionate supporters willing their team on and we hope they enjoy the day.

"Our officers will be in and around the ground and happy to help and advise fans during what is sure to be a great atmosphere on Sunday.

"We will have sufficient resources available on the day to respond to any issues and our priority is to ensure a safe and enjoyable environment for fans."
