Wolves boss Nuno: Rasmussen shows everyone must be ready

Oskar Buur Rasmussen’s dramatic league debut equaliser for Wolves last week proves every youngster must be ready to make an impact, Nuno Espirito Santo believes.

The young Danish right-back earned Wolves a point with a late header in the 2-2 draw with Hull at Molineux.

He had only been on the field for 13 minutes after being named on the substitutes’ bench owing to Matt Doherty’s one-match suspension.

The Danish youth international headed home Barry Douglas’s cross to rescue the point.

And Nuno recalled his own surprise debut as an 18-year-old for Vitoria Guimaraes as he called for every Wolves youngster to make sure they’re ready.

“Everyone has to be ready – the proof was with what Oskar did in this special moment,” the Wolves boss said.

“It goes much beyond the first team. We as coaches have to look at under-23 and under-18 because we are building something.

“We have to know there will be players available to us so I think it’s my responsibility to have a good look and analysis with the scouts and Kevin (Thelwell) to prepare all these things.

“They know it could be them next. History shows us you never know what can happen at 18, 19, or later. Their chance will come and they have to work hard for it.”

Nuno suggested it will get harder for Rasmussen now. The youngster is back training with the under-23s.

The boss spoke of his debut as a teenager which came in similar circumstances.

“My debut is in my mind. I was 18 years old sitting on the bench and not expecting and suddenly I had to go on the pitch and play,” he added.

“It was fantastic and sometimes not having the responsibility releases you and you can put your talent, because you don’t even think what you’re doing in that moment.

“After, it’s harder. But good for Oskar and good for the boys that surely will come through next time.”
