Wolves 2 Hull City 2 – player ratings

Wolves correspondent Tim Spiers rates the players after a 2-2 draw against Hull City.

Published

John Ruddy

Two important saves from Nouha Dicko and Michael Hector, which he appeared to touch onto the post even though it was given as a goal kick. A dodgy first half moment when he horribly sliced a clearance. It's pretty much one iffy moment a game at the moment for Ruddy, who looks short of confidence. But other than that he did well. 7/10

Roderick Miranda

Handed a shock start – his first since October – ahead of club captain Danny Batth but this may have been his last appearance for Wolves. Was carelessly put in trouble by his team mate Costa but with Conor Coady covering there was no need to drag down David Meyler in the clumsy manner Miranda did. Given the hook at half time. 5/10

Conor Coady

Produced a customary heroic block in the first half and swept up loose balls on a number of occasions. His passing range wasn't quite there, though and Wolves began to fall apart a bit defensively in the second half. 6/10

Willy Boly

The pick of the back three. Sometimes his concentration levels can waver – it's as if it's too easy for him – but on the whole he was solid, getting in a few crunching tackles to boot. Nearly scored what would have hands down been the goal of the season with a 30-yard cannonball that was tipped wide very late on. Who knew he was capable of that? The Wall can do anything. 7/10

Ryan Bennett

Anonymous in the first half at right wing back although his team mates seemed reluctant to pass to him, as if he'd been the last boy to be picked on the school playing field. More at home in the second half but then put Grosicki's cross into his own net. To be fair Campbell was putting pressure on and would have scored a tap in, but this wasn't a night to remember for Bennett. 5/10

Alfred N'Diaye

Had a couple of headless chicken moments when trying to burst from midfield and his positioning left a lot to be desired on a night when Hull won the midfield battle, particularly via the impressive Meyler. Passes to the forward players weren't incisive enough, either. 5/10

Romain Saiss

Was out on his feet at Middlesbrough and the fatigue from that energy-sapping win was evident here, more from his wayward passing than anything. One lovely ball to release Jota for a great first half chance but otherwise he was pretty toothless and slightly off the pace. 5/10

Barry Douglas

Better offensively than defensively and provided his 14th (FOURTEENTH) assist of the season, the joint best in the league with £10m Villa loanee Robert Snodgrass, with a lovely lofted cross for Oskar Buur Rasmussen to nod home. You'd back Douglas to locate the Chinese satellite before it crashed to earth. Unerring accuracy. 7/10

Helder Costa

Very lively in the first half and produced an orgasmic moment for the home crowd when he took two players on bringing the ball out of defence with all the grace of a swan on a lake. Not so great from a similar position when he lost his head and played the ball into his own box, leading to Hull's penalty. 6/10

Diogo Jota

Won the penalty, which he converted for his 15th goal of a superb season. Clearly not 100 per cent fit and he did well to last as long as he did, which should put him in good stead for Cardiff on Friday. A couple of great bursts behind the back line but his influence waned as the game went on. 6/10

Ivan Cavaleiro

Barely noticeable in the first half bar the past for Jota's penalty. A fish out of water at wing back in the second half. Took on five players in a row at one point (yes, really) but otherwise he was nowhere near his best. 5/10

Substitutes

Benik Afobe (for Miranda, 45)

A couple of nice touches and a half chance that he skewed wide but otherwise he struggled to get into the game. Should be refreshed for Friday where he may be unleashed from the start. 5/10

Oskar Buur Rasmussen (for Jota, 70)

His inclusion was more out of the blue than a smurf in the Pacific but my goodness did he take his chance. A busy performance anyway (when he was given the ball) and then Rasmussen popped up with a bullet header than Steve Bull would have been proud of. It was his Federico Macheda moment and earned Wolves a point that takes them closer to promotion. Back in the under-23s today and, who knows, he may never be seen in a Wolves shirt again...but whatever happens this was the stuff dreams are made of. 7/10

Morgan Gibbs-White (for N'Diaye, 77)

A decent cameo from the youngster who perhaps should have started. 6/10

Subs not used: Norris, Batth, Hause, Bonatini.
