Barry Douglas remaining positive despite Wolves blip

Barry Douglas says keeping positive is key to Wolves getting back to winning ways as they look to recover from their worst blip of the season.

Two points from three matches represents the poorest points return for Nuno Espirito Santo’s team.

While that’s a ‘worst’ record that most teams would be happy with, it’s coincided with four straight victories for Cardiff, who have closed the gap to the leaders from 13 points to six in the space of a week.

Wolves host Reading at Molineux on Saturday and will be looking for maximum points from both that and Wednesday’s trip to Leeds United before travelling to third-placed Aston Villa next weekend in a big derby clash.

Scottish left wing-back Douglas said: “We need to keep positive, keep calm, keep doing what we’ve been doing and I’m sure we’ll be fine.

“Maybe people seem a bit anxious, the supporters and that, because we’ve not really found ourselves in this situation.

“Like any game, win lose or draw, we’ll reassess and regroup and have good training and look forward to the next game and prepare.

“We’re not getting ahead ourselves. We’ve got 12 cup finals now.”

Wolves lost 2-0 at Fulham last weekend, which was just their fifth defeat of the season after earlier losses to Cardiff City, Sheffield United, Queens Park Rangers and Nottingham Forest.

However, it was the manner of the defeat that caused concern, with Wolves well beaten at Craven Cottage as the hosts won thanks to goals from Ryan Sessegnon and Aleksandar Mitrovic.

Former Legia Warsaw and Konyaspor player Douglas, aged 28, said Wolves would learn from the mistakes made on Saturday and bounce back as soon as possible.

“I don’t think we can have any complaints (with the result). “All credit to Fulham, they were overall better on the day and deserved three points. We’ll look back at it. We’ve not really found ourselves in that situation this season.

“As much as we’ve been riding the highs, we can learn a lot about ourselves from Saturday and look where we need to rectify and bounce back.

“We’ll hopefully do that as soon as possible.”

Meanwhile, despite seeing their lead to second more than halve, Wolves remain huge odds-on favourites to win promotion.

Wolves are 1/100 to win promotion this season with bet365, or 1/50 to finish in the top two.

However, their odds of winning promotion were 1/500 just a couple of weeks ago.

Bookmakers are offering odds of 6/1 for Wolves not to win the title.

Nuno’s team are 16/1 to win the league by a margin of one-to-three points, 7/1 to win by four-to-six points, 7/2 to win by seven-to-nine points and 8/11 to win by 10 points or more.
