Ten-man Wolves came from behind to beat the Robins with a stoppage time winner from centre half Ryan Bennett.

A thrilling encounter at Ashton Gate saw both teams have a man sent off – Danny Batth in the 14th minute for Wolves and then keeper Frank Fielding just past the hour mark for Bristol City.

Nuno was also sent to the stands shortly after Batth's red. Bobby Reid put City in front after half time but after Fielding's red Barry Douglas curled home the resulting free kick and the Scot whipped in the free kick for Bennett's remarkable winner.

Nuno said: "It means a lot.

"Of course it's important to win. I have to congratulate the boys, our fans for the way they were celebrating with us, it means a lot for the boys.

"I'm happy with the game, not all the circumstances of the game, people didn't do their jobs properly. Besides that we dug in well, the sending off changes everything but we reacted really well in how we stayed organised in the game. Bristol didn't create anything.

"The reaction was fantastic, the boys did really well and it was incredible the character they showed.

"What supports the talent is the strength and the power and the humble that the boys are."

Nuno said the club would appeal against skipper Batth's early red, given for a foul on Hordur Magnusson.

He also criticised counterpart Lee Johnson's pre-match comments that his team "need to do a job for the league" by beating leaders Wolves.

The Wolves head coach said: "We don't fight against anybody, we are inside the competition, so this kind of message that Lee Johnson sends – "let's beat Wolves to help the competition – creates a tough atmosphere that is absurd.

"People don't have to see us like we are something to beat. We're one team that wants to compete game by game under the rules for three points.

"So don't change the atmosphere. We're one more team – we're not the team to beat.

"This referee it's the second time he's had our game and the second sending off (after Conor Coady at Sheffield United). I think it's unfair.

"I'm fair. I'm sorry for my sending off. I was sent off because he said "you go inside of the pitch" – it's true I put one step, one foot inside the pitch and the rules said I should be sent off.

"But I was not rude, I didn't have abusive or bad words for the referee."
