Wolves skipper Danny Batth: We won't get ahead of ourselves

Captain Danny Batth says he'll stop his team mates getting ahead of themselves as Wolves aim to stay top of the Championship.

Wolves host fifth-placed Preston at Molineux on Saturday looking to cement their status as league leaders.

Batth skippered the side to a 2-0 derby win over Villa last weekend which took Wolves to the top of the second tier for the first time since 2009.

And he believes hard work and not getting carried away will keep them there.

"Keep working hard and keep doing the things that are getting you where you are right now," Batth said.

"Don't change anything and don't try and do anything too fancy.

"If there are one or two in the dressing room who are getting a bit giddy you keep them tuned in, that is my job and the manager and the rest of the more experienced players.

"All I think about at the moment is the form guide, that is how I look at it. It is a good start but a lot of teams have had good starts in the past and got no-where near it.

"The big picture will be just trying to beat Preston."

Wolves are second-top scorers in the Championship with 21 from 12 matches.

Batth hailed the team's venomous attack – and believes Wolves' mindset is helping them cope with lofty expectations this season.

"It comes down to mindset, the hard work we put in on the training field pays off," he added.

"We are all aware of that. The second that is not right we all realise we are teeing ourselves up for a fall. So to keep that work ethic up and that hunger and desire that is the critical thing now.

"We look really organised , everyone and even players on the bench or in the stand will know what is required if they need to come in and play.

"That is key. Players are pushing each other every day. We have such a good squad no player can afford to think we have done alright and got a win and we can relax. That can't be the mentality if you want to do anything.

"(Quality up front) has been lacking here for a while so to have that kind of venom and cold-bloodedness at that end of the pitch really does help.

"In the dressing room we know it is just the start of the season and we are not even a quarter of the way through.

"We have had a good bit of form and that is what it is at the moment. As long as the guys are confident we are ready to go again."
