Danny Batth: Wolves ready for a Burton battle

Captain Danny Batth says Wolves will come out fighting tomorrow as they bid to sign off for the international break with a victory.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s team make the short trip to the Pirelli Stadium to face a Burton team 11 points and 15 places below them in the Championship table.

The Brewers were beaten 4-0 at home by Villa in midweek but as last season’s corresponding fixture showed, when Burton beat Wolves 2-1, the Pirelli isn’t an easy place to go by any means.

Wolves have played some great football this season but Batth knows their battling qualities will be just as important tomorrow.

“(It’s about) calm heads and experience,” he said in the wake of Wednesday’s 2-0 defeat at Sheffield United.

“A lot of us have been there and done it, we’re making a real fist of it this season so we’ll come out fighting on Saturday.

“Through a season you’re going to have hiccups and setbacks. We have to cater for that.

“It wasn’t to be on Wednesday but we’ve been on a good run and it’s about going on the next one.

“It’s the Championship, you never have too long (between games) and you have to really focus on the next match.

“We’ll assess what we’ve done, how we can do it better and focus on Saturday – there are three points there to be won.”

The Blades defeat was tough to take, especially after Wolves spurned an opportunity to level things up when Ruben Neves missed a penalty.

Batth was pleased with the spirit shown by the team in difficult circumstances. “On another day we could have stuck the penalty away and there were a few half chances,” he added.

“It’s fine margins. What I was proud of was the reaction from the boys in the second half. They tried to muster something up.

“We got the tactics board out at half-time, the manager set us up well and we’ve had a penalty to try and nick something.

“It’s disappointing but fortunately we’ve got a game on Saturday so the boys will be recovering well and making sure we’re bang at it. We’re not going to dwell on it and I’m sure the fans will be right behind us again on Saturday.

“The travelling support was absolutely excellent.

“Ten men away from home on a Tuesday night, tipping down with rain, nothing much to sing about but they were vocal and supported us all the way through and almost sucked the ball into the goal.

“Hats off to them. We go again on Saturday.”

Kortney Hause, who hasn’t played this season owing to injury but was on the bench for the recent Carabao Cup victory over Bristol Rovers, Sylvain Deslandes and Romain Saiss are among the options to replace the suspended Conor Coady in defence.

Willy Boly and Ryan Bennett are expected to miss out through injury.

Wolves will also hope Barry Douglas has recovered from the knock he picked up at Bramall Lane on Wednesday.
