Substitute Alfred N'Diaye's last gasp goal secured a 2-1 victory for Wolves just two minutes after the Tykes looked to have earned a point with a late equaliser.

Another substitute Bright Enobakhare had put Wolves in front on 80 minutes, volleying home N'Diaye's cross, leading to a dramatic finish after what had previously been a fairly tepid and even encounter.

Nuno said: "It was not good in the first half, very bad, we didn't play like we should and can play.

"The second half was totally different, better, good situations and dramatic at the end.

"It shows the character, to put the ball in the middle of the pitch and say okay let's go again, we still have time.

"Three points like this means a lot for the character of the team.

"Today was Alfred's (day), tomorrow it will be another one.

"You always expect that from a player when you put him in, to change the dynamic of the game, create new mobility and creativity.

"This is the squad. We don't care only about the players on the pitch."

Enobakhare scored his second goal in a week, following on from his winner against Bristol Rovers in the Carabao Cup. He had previously gone two years without finding the net.

Nuno added: "Bright's was a good goal and a beautiful moment of football. It's well deserved for him, he's working very well."

A big crowd of 28,154 was one of the biggest for a league game in recent seasons.

The head coach said: "This is our pack, this is the way we want to be. We're thankful for the support.

"We work very hard, it's a big step we have to take for the next game that it's 90 minutes of full consistency in our game. When we come back we expect 90 minutes of full support."

And despite a below par performance Nuno added: "There's no standard – the perfection doesn't exist. We always can improve. It's easy to do it when we win three points, it says we're doing well and enough to achieve.

"When you play good football you are very close to winning the game – this is what we have to do.

"The fighting qualities are good but it's not enough. If you can have the same behaviour and attitude all over the pitch we'll be a better team.

"I have to look but we didn't create enough mobility to unlock (Barnsley)."

The win kept Wolves second in the table, level on points with leaders Leeds.
