The Molineux hot-shot joined Town on a season-long loan yesterday, becoming the fifth loan player to check into the Montgomery Waters Meadow this summer.

Ennis, 18, was on the cusp of the Wolves first team but broke his leg in training while on the verge of a debut under Paul Lambert.

Hurst is a big fan of the highly-rated Wolverhampton-born youngster and hopes the England youth international can grasp the chance given to him by Shrewsbury.

“He adds to our striking options,” said Hurst. “The boy is 100 per cent a talent. Now it’s an opportunity for him. Logistically it’s great for him.

“He’s a different type with Carlton and Lenny more targets, Niall likes to play on the shoulder, he’s got very good movement and is a good finisher.

“He’s an out-and-out number nine striker and a goalscorer. He’s not a big target man. His movement is very clever. he wants to run towards the opposition’s goal.

“I’ve seen him, his biggest strength is playing on the shoulder and getting goalscoring opportunities. When he does, he takes them very well.

“I don’t believe it’s too much to ask for him to come and score goals, not for what they think of him.

“They still feel he’s one for their future so hopefully we can give him the platform to get himself in the limelight.”

Ennis joins Lenell John-Lewis and Carlton Morris as out-and-out strikers in Hurst’s ranks. While Hurst also labels attackers Louis Dodds and Arthur Gnahoua as striking options. AJ Leitch-Smith has not been involved this summer and doesn’t feature in the boss’ plans.

Hurst is now content with his striking options, adding that he will not be moving for any more centre-forwards this window.

“Realistically that finishes our striker search. You never say never but we filled spaces and we’d be daft to move people out,” added the Shrewsbury manager.
